Raja Rao, Famous Indian English literature,

 Introduction

 Raja Rao was an Indian-American writer of English language novels and short stories, whose works are deeply rooted in metaphysics. Raja Rao was a man who made wonders with his pen. He is the first English philosopher and novelist of Indian literature. Raja Rao is the most influential novelist that the nation has ever seen.

Raja Rao used  English, French, and Kannada to write the most beautiful words of an era. He was the most eminent novelist and has been felicitated with awards including Padma Bhushan Award.

Early Life

       Born to well known Brahmin family, Raja Rao was born on 8th November 8, 1908, in Hasan, a small town in Mysore, India. He was the eldest child among his siblings. His father was a teacher at Nizam College teaching Kannada.  He was born and brought up in a traditional Brahmin family and was also educated at home before going to a Muslim school and then Wesleyan Mission High School in nearby Mangalore. After completing his early education, he studied at the University of Madras and completed his bachelor's degree in English literature. And then he mastered France, and when he was in France his interest in the Indian. Independence movement.

The death of his mother at the early age of four and his grandfather left a great impression on his growing years. While in France he married Camille Mouly in 1931.

                                    Later he married for the second time to Katherine Jones, an stage actor in Great America. Again also he married for the third time with Susan in 1970

Professional life:

                             Raja Rao returned to India in the year of 1939 and became a lecturer at the University of Boroda where he taught English Literature. He also served as a professor of philosophy at the University of Texas. He taught courses like Marxism to Gandhism and Indian philosophy: The Upanishads, The metaphysical Basics of Male and Female principles.

In 1938, Raja Rao wrote his Great novel 'Kanthapura'which shows the impact of Gandhi's philosophy of non-violent resistance on the village.

 R. K. Narayan got numerous awards: 

Raja Rao was an outstanding and influential novelist. He was the first English philosopher and novelist of Indian literature.

He has given tremendous and marvelous work to the world and this eminent novelist has been felicitated with awards like;

    • Sahitya Akademi Award (1964)
    • Padma Bhushan (1969)
    • Neustadt International Prize for Literature (1988)
    • Padma Vibhushan (2007) posthumously.

He was an active part of the Quit India Movement.
