R.K. Narayan(1906 - 2001)
Introduction
R. K. Narayan is the great writer of Indian English Literature. He is the most creative of all Indian writes. And He is known for his work which set in the fictional town that is called Malgudi. So, Malgudi is his fictional town and he create all his novel in this city Malgudi. R. K. Narayan is the contemporary writer of Mulkraj Annand and Raja Rao and this three Indian writer were the leading author of early Indian English Literature. Early Life: R. k. Narayan’s full name is Rasipuram Krishna swami Iyre Narayan swami. Where R stands for Rasipuram, this is the name of village in Madras, here K stand for Krishna swami is the name of his father and Narayan Swami is his name. R. K. Narayan was born on 10th October 1906 in Madras. His father Krishna swami Iyre was a school teacher. After R. k. Narayan’s birth K. Narayan is the great writer of Indian English Literature. Early Life:
R. k. Narayan’s full name is Rasipuram Krishna swami Iyre Narayan swami. Where R stands for Rasipuram, this is the name of village in Madras, here K stand for Krishna swami is the name of his father and Narayan Swami is his name. R. K. Narayan was born on 10th October 1906 in Madras. His father Krishna swami Iyre was a school teacher. After R. k. Narayan’s birthhis father got a job of a school teacher in Mysore and then the whole family moved there except R. K. Narayan who was left and stay with his grandmother but later he also shifted to Mysore. Education : R. K. Narayan was an intelligent student, after completed B.A in 1930 at the age of 24. He had also a large family to support.
Professional life:
R. K. Narayan got a job of as a clerk in the Mysore. Then he became a teacher in village school but he was not satisfied with his job means with the job of teacher as he wanted to become a writer. In the year 1933 he felt in love with a girl, Rajam.Later he married the girl and they had one daughter, Hema. Only 5 years after their marriage in the year 1939. His wife Rajam got died in Typhoid when their daughter was 3 years old. And he also died in 13th May 2001 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu at the age of 94.
At first he was very depressed to lose his wife then these depression became bravery concerning his girl's life.He always wanted to become a writer. So, he quit his of a school teacher and then devoted all his life to writer. And soon he attend great success as a novelist and a short story writer. And he started writing in few newspapers. After the marriage with Rajam, he joined as a reporter in “The Justice”.

Novel:
In 1935 he wrote his first Novel Swami and Friends.The Bachelor of Arts (1937) was his second Novel that was packed with his collage experience.
In 1938, Narayan wrote his Third novel TheDark Room which shows inequality of domestic life.
R. k. Narayan’s fourth and very famous novel The English Teacher published in 1945.

R. K. Narayan got numerous awards:
His novel The Guide was got the Sahitya Academy Award in the year1960. It was his first major award and when this book The Guide it was made into the film or movie then he received the “Film fare Award” for his best Novel.
In the year 1964 he received Padma Bhushan during the Republic day Honours.
He was nominated to the Rajjya Sabha.
And he also nominated for the ’Noble Prize’ in literature multiple times but he didn’t get the honors.
A year before his death, he was awarded
India’s second highest civilian honors, the
“Padma Vibhushan”.
In 1994 he was published The Grandmother’s Tale and that n was his last work after that he felt ill and hospitalized. On 13th May 2001 R. K Narayan died at the age of 94.
